“Frozen”

Following the fundamental principles of color theory, I developed a closed concept. This sense of closure appears through geometric elements, presented in a static manner. The concept, together with the repetition of geometric forms, creates a mass — in this case symbolizing a multitude of people.

The painting is enclosed by a surrounding white space that presses inward, attempting to compress the composition. This white space represents the controlling system that surrounds us. Yet within the mass, certain figures begin to emerge — individuals who wish to form and express an opinion. The color red signals this urge to speak out.

The forms are uneven in places, and the composition shifts slightly at certain points. With this, I intended to suggest that thoughts and opinions shape human personality. No matter how closed and disciplined the system may seem that seeks to contain us, the human being remains autonomous, longing for freedom. Even within stillness, a sense of movement appears.
